My own personal favourite train in the National Railway Museum is this one, the Mallard. I like the look and shape of it. My mum just told me she used to travel on one of these when going to and from London in the 50s. The one in the background - the Eurostar is one I've been on, under the English Channel to France.

My own personal favourite train in the National Railway Museum is this one, the Mallard. I like the look and shape of it. My mum just told me she used to travel on one of these when going to and from London in the 50s. The one in the background - the Eurostar is one I've been on, under the English Channel to France.
I'd forgotten about Mallard. Isn't that a fabulous engine.
ReplyDeleteI've been on Eurostar twice, once to Paris once to Brussels. I should have been on it 3 times but it caught fire the day I was supposed to travel and I had to fly.

I watched Mallard steam over Strensall Common in about 1987, I think it would be its last journey before going to the Museum,it was a thrilling sight.

ReplyDeleteI think the Mallard is about the 2nd most famous loco in the UK; the first being the flying Scotsman. I really enjoyed all the train programmes that BBC4 showed a few weeks ago.

ReplyDeleteA true classic. My son went thru a train period & we had a Trains video that had footage of the Mallard. & one of the must dos on my list is to ride the Eurostar in the Chunnel. Lovely picture indeed.

I think blogging must be on the decline - chatted to No 5 the other day and he is thinking of giving it up - rarely get comments on mine these days, and hardly anyone seems to be posting - sad stuff eh?
