My Favourite Train

My own personal favourite train in the National Railway Museum is this one, the Mallard. I like the look and shape of it. My mum just told me she used to travel on one of these when going to and from London in the 50s. The one in the background - the Eurostar is one I've been on, under the English Channel to France.

I'd forgotten about Mallard. Isn't that a fabulous engine.

I've been on Eurostar twice, once to Paris once to Brussels. I should have been on it 3 times but it caught fire the day I was supposed to travel and I had to fly.

Thanks for all the train pics Ruby.

I watched Mallard steam over Strensall Common in about 1987, I think it would be its last journey before going to the Museum,it was a thrilling sight.

They don't make 'em like that anymore. Never been a spotter, but admit this is a beauty.

I think the Mallard is about the 2nd most famous loco in the UK; the first being the flying Scotsman. I really enjoyed all the train programmes that BBC4 showed a few weeks ago.

I agree with Babooshka. If they were like this now-a-days I'm sure they would run on time!

Hi Ruby, Love this engine. Looks so glamorous and still reassuring! Don't know about the Eurostar though, just the idea of travelling under all that water makes me shiver. Yes, I'm a big fuss...Ciao. Antonella

A true classic. My son went thru a train period & we had a Trains video that had footage of the Mallard. & one of the must dos on my list is to ride the Eurostar in the Chunnel. Lovely picture indeed.

I just saw a "Like … WOW!" post from here on Antonella's sidebar, but Blogger says it doesn't exist. I really hope you're okay, Ruby, and just busy with the season.

Hi Ruby.

I can see in my links to my favourite sites that you have updated your blog - your alive! But I can't actually see it on your blog :(

Is blogger being naughty again?!

I think blogging must be on the decline - chatted to No 5 the other day and he is thinking of giving it up - rarely get comments on mine these days, and hardly anyone seems to be posting - sad stuff eh? Saw you comment on the other site - end of an era. Will be coming to York next year - will let you know when. Have a good xmas x x

Great looking train. I would never guess it is over 50 years old. The Railway Museum looks wonderful.
